Cycle the Cotswolds
Take a private cycling tour in the cotswolds and enjoy the area at your own pace with your own group of friends or family. As well as our group tour which anyone can join we get a lot of requests for private cycle tours of the Cotswolds so have also included this as an option
On a private cotswolds cycling tour we are happy to meet you at your hotel or an agreed meeting point in the Cotswolds (other town, train station etc) rather than you having to get to Moreton-in-Marsh. As it will be just you on the tour we are happy to tailor make the tour to a length and distance to suit you and to try to include certain villages or towns that you wish to visit.
If you are not sure on a route or distance were have two set routes that are best started from Moreton-in-Marsh. One is flat and one has some hills. They both cover around 18 miles over 6 hours.
Our private cotswolds cycle tours include bike hire with helmets and a local knowledgeable guide for the day. These cotswolds cycling tours last 6 hours and can cover several cotswolds villages using quiet country lanes and with a stop at a nice country pub for lunch
Standard Course
This course is around 18 miles and includes two moderate hills (170’/52m climb over 0.5 mile/0.8km and 300’/90m over 1 mile/1.6km), although these may be skipped depending on the fitness level of the group. If you are not sure about the hills we recommend our leisurely course. The tour passes through rolling cotswolds countryside and we aim to visit the following places on this tour (subject to change).
Moreton-in-Marsh- a classic Cotswold town with heaps of history lying on the Roman Fosse Way and has a JRR Tolkien link.
Chipping Campden- a picturesque Cotswolds wool market town with many historical buildings and a wonderful ‘wool’ church.
Broad Campden-tucked away in a small valley this delicious village with a host of interesting old homes, a small victorian chapel and a great cosy country pub.
Ebrington- pretty little Cotswold village with many cotswolds stone thatched cottages and amazing 17th century pub that we sometimes employ as a ‘rest stop’.
Paxford- another quiet village with great country pub that we love, The Churchill Arms!
Blockley- delightful village, unspoilt by tourism and filming location of Father Brown. At the height of its prosperity in the 18th century it had 6 mills producing high quality silk.
Leisurely Course
This gentle course is pretty much flat with no hills, running along the pretty Evenlode valley and passing through several off-the-beaten track cotswold villages. If you are unsure about your fitness levels or haven’t cycled for a while we recommend this course. We aim to visit the following places on this tour (subject to change).
Evenlode– Evenlode village is the source of the Evenlode River, a tributary of the Thames
Adlestrop– pretty village and remains of train station made famous by the poem by Edward Thomas of the same name
Kingham– beautiful unspoiled Cotswold village pretty village green and home to the odd celebrity
Daylesford Organic Farm-world famous organic farm, cafe and farmshop. Grab some local cheese or beers!
Bledington– scenic village with an attractive green and still retains its 15th century church and Victorian maypole.
Lower Oddington– village with ancient church containing 14th century ‘Doom’ paintings
